  • 1¼ cup almond meal (ground almonds)
  • 12 Medjool dates, seed removed
  • 1½ teaspoons mixed spice (use 2 teaspoons if not using extra cinnamon and cloves below)
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon - optional
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves - optional
  • 2 tablespoons of either mixed peel or orange zest or 1 teaspoon orange extract
  • 1 tablespoon almond spread, orange juice or
coconut oil (only use if mixture does not bind)

Crosses:

  • ½ cup almond meal
  • Water
  • ½ teaspoon orange extract
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil, melted
  • Place all the ingredients for the balls except the almond spread in a food processor and process until a smooth sticky dough consistency is achieved. Add the almond spread if the mixture is not combining and needs a bit more moisture to do so.
  • Roll the mixture into small balls using your hands and place in the fridge until they become firm.

To make the paste for the crosses:

  • Blend all the ingredients in a food processor until smooth. Alternatively, you can mix by hand in a bowl.
  • Pipe or drizzle the paste over the bliss balls to form a cross on each one.

Refrigerate or freeze balls in an air-tight container.
